Tsumeb is regarded as the gateway to the north as a whole. It can also serve as a prime locality for attracting appropriate industrial and commercial enterprise, and for export to other African countries and elsewhere via the Trans-Caprivi Highway. Tsumeb Chamber of Commerce Tsumeb Municipality Financial Services All major banks in Namibia providing a comprehensive range of domestic and international banking services are represented in Tsumeb, including Bank Windhoek, First National Bank, Standard Bank and Swabou Bank. Roads Tsumeb has a well-developed and maintained road network and aerodrome system. Per capita Namibia has more kilometres of road than any other country in Africa including South Africa. Additional prominent features of the country's road-transport network include the excellent north-south axis between Angola and South Africa, as well as the routes to the West Coast (Luederitz, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay). Rail The standard-gauge rail connection of the state-owned rail service TransNamib, link Tsumeb with Windhoek, Walvis Bay (via Swakopmund) and South Africa. Transport further north to Angola is currently possible only by road or air. However, the railway network is being extended northward to Ondangwa, Oshakati and eventually to Oshikango, set to link with the Angolan railroads. Completion of the project is expected by 2005. Air Tsumeb has an airport with a 1 450 m tarred landing strip to the east of town providing fuel services for Avgas as well as JET-A1. There are scheduled flights between Tsumeb and Windhoek a few times a week. Efforts are underway to establish this airport as an international port of entry. Transport The Intercape Mainliner air-conditioned bus operates twice a week from Windhoek or Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe to Tsumeb. TransNamib's Starline passenger bus service operates from the railroad station and links Tsumeb with Rundu. There are many local minibuses or taxis that travel to and from Tsumeb and surrounding towns and Windhoek. Local taxi services are available for transport within the municipal boundaries. International renowned car rental companies have offices in Tsumeb, including AVIS Rent-A-Car and Imperial Car Hire. Charter flights for business or pleasure to anywhere in Namibia or southern Africa can be organized through Tsumeb Aviation Services or Etosha Fly-In Safaris. Post and Telecommunication Services Namibia's postal and telecommunication services are of the best and most reliable in Africa. Namibia's postal service NamPost offers a reliable mailing and courier service to all mayor destination whithin Namibia and abroad. Telecom Namibia, Namibia's telecommunications company, offers superior quality telephone and internet services through a 100% digitised network backbone. Direct dialing facilities are available to more than 220 countries worldwide. It also offers a number of value-added services, including teleconferencing, ISDN, facsimile and telex services. Mobile Telecomunications Ltd. (MTC), Namibia's cellular communication service provider, covers more than 70 towns in Namibia through its GSM 900 network. It also has roaming agreements with more than 200 foreign operators. Internet services are also provided by a number of private ISPs including NamibNet, M-Web, I-Africa and the state-owned i-Way. Professional Services There are a number of legal prationers in Tsumeb, as well as a Magistrate's Court. The Regional Court comes to town, once a month or so, to deal with more serious cases, such as murder and rape. Other professional services include architects, accounting and financial management firms, Internet and website solution firms, land surveyors, engineers, electricians, carpenters, plumbers and printers.
